A green campus, to the last corner
Landscape architects Landlab have carried the idea of a green campus through to every last corner.
Park MORE invites you to linger on the terraces of the hotel, the restaurant and the lunch café. And to unwind under the trees, on the lawn and by the pond. With seating, a table tennis table, a chessboard and a stage, meeting one another outdoors becomes the obvious thing to do.
Studying together, picnicking, lying in the grass, debating, meditating, dancing, or watching a performance or a film. Within Park MORE, every building gets shared gardens and benches for its residents.
A walk worth taking
A walking route runs right through Park MORE.
It leads from the Campusplein with the faculty buildings and the new university Sports and Examination Centre, via the Terrassenplein, past the pond and across the bridge to the junction of the Einsteinweg and the Zernikedreef. Along the way you are regularly tempted to stop for a moment and stay a while.
The most important amenities line this route: the Community Lobby, a supermarket, terraces, a food court, flexible workspaces and possibly a Culture Pavilion too. In the Community Lobby, new residents and visitors are given a warm welcome.
The atmosphere in Park MORE shifts gradually: from a lively urban setting around the Terrassenplein to quieter, greener living along the edges.
Cyclists are guests here
Park MORE is made for walking and for staying a while.
Cyclists are guests in Park MORE, and parked bicycles are kept out of sight as much as possible. Every building gets shared indoor bicycle storage for residents and visitors. For shop and hospitality visitors there will be bicycle parking nearby in the public space, which leaves more room in the park itself for greenery and recreation.
Cars belonging to residents and visitors alike are parked in one central garage on the edge of the park: the car park on the Ehrenfestweg. In addition, a car park will be built beneath blocks MORE6 and MORE7 specifically for their residents and users. Only essential traffic drives through Park MORE — think suppliers, removal vans, waste collection and emergency services.
Smart mobility services such as shared cars and shared bikes can be arranged through the Community App, making owning a car — or even a bicycle — less necessary still. The Community Lobby becomes the delivery point for all residents' parcels, keeping Park MORE free of delivery vans. A new bridge will improve the connection from Park MORE to the nearby public transport stop on the Plesmanlaan.

A landscape machine
Park MORE is being laid out as far as possible as a pleasant green place to be, with plenty of shade under the trees.
But Park MORE is more than that: it is a sustainable landscape machine. Water is collected, buffered and reused for irrigation. An ecological bank zone filters the water.
Carefully considered planting cools the surroundings through evaporation and shade, and drives an airflow that makes the place more comfortable to be in. Varied native planting, with transitions from wet to dry, creates remarkable habitats for a great many animals.
Alongside people, plants, insects, birds and other small animals will feel at home in this biodiverse park.
LBSP, make yourself heard. And seen.
The companies and Leiden University at LBSP are innovative and often have fascinating stories to tell. At the same time, those stories are relatively invisible.
In Park MORE, those companies will soon have the chance to draw the attention they deserve — connecting MORE more firmly to its surroundings. Exactly what form this will take is still being developed.
